IDM-Alert HAI Surveillance
Is your healthcare organisation in control?
When using the IDM-Alert HAI surveillance module, the following questions can be answered for your organisation:
- Do I have infection problems in my healthcare organisation?
- How many post-operative wound infections are registered in my healthcare organisation?
- How many pulmonary infection problems are registered, and are these ventilated infections?
- How many urinary tract infections are registered and how many are catheter-related?
- How many bloodstream infections are registered, and how many are line-related infections?
- Is a trend notable of one of the parameters above within certain timeline, specialties and/or wards?
- Which interventions should be started ?
- Are started interventions succesful?
All functionalities supports the PDCA cycle of Good Medical Practice (GMP).
Furthermore, workflow is secured and compliant to ISO standards.
IDM-Alert HAI surveillance is a workflow-based real time Clinical Decision Support System with step-wise role-based authorisation to produce high quality outcome and triggers. This outcome and triggers can be real time shared with electronic patient record systems and electronic prescription systems. IDM-Alert HAI surveillance is an algorithm-based (scientifically proven algorithms) application using a standardized, normalized clinical data repository. One of the great features of IDM-Alert is the workflow for a hospital-wide point-prevalence survey to obtain information about hospital-acquired infections (HAIs), including the top-4 (surgical wound infections, bloodstream infections (including central line management), urinary tract infections, lower respiratory tract infections) thirty to sixty times faster than classical survey, while the performance of IDM-Alert HAI surveillance is significantly better than a classical survey by infection control specialists. An interactive report analysis tool has been developed to provide real time information for doctors and hospital staff. to observe problems at certain wards or specialties. This time-saving, worldwide unique solution provides real time daily or weekly management information on HAIs to have the opportunity to start focused PDCA compliant interventions. Succes rate of intervention strategies can be easily analysed using auto-reports.

The review workflow using IDM-Alert
The Clinical Decision Support System of IDM-Alert provide a flexible and easy processable workflow for Infection Control specialists. In this example, a 570-bed hospital had (in this example) at the time of point-pfevalence 503 patients admitted to the hospital. From these patients, only 287 were included, according to the CDC inclusion criteria. From these 287 included patients, 227 patients (79% were registered automatically as true negative by automated (nested) algorithm.
Only 60 patients (12% of all admitted patients) were selected as suspicious for Hospital Aquired Infection (HAI). These 60 patients will be reviewed by infection control specialists using the review module of IDM-Alert.
The total process for a hospital-wide HAI point-prevalence using IDM-Alert takes not more than 5 hours (800 bed general hospital) up to 20 hours (1,200 bed academic hospital).
